About 3,570 persons or groups of people who travelled in the Ottoman Empire or settled there for a longer period of time between 1396 and 1611 are listed in this encyclopaedia. The data have been taken from contemporary sources by authors from the Holy Roman Empire.
The encyclopaedia contains biographical and genealogical information, bibliographical data, and excerpts of published and unpublished travelogues, political correspondence, letters and itineraries. References to travel companions, migrants and contact persons are included.
The CD contains the complete work and allows easy and comfortable searching. The work is an important reference tool for any research in regional and migration-history, as well as cultural exchanges between central and south-eastern Europe in the late Middle Ages and the early modern era.
